Because I like the feel of yarn in my hands, I am a weaver, with a preference for tapestry format image-based weaving. When
I retired from a career as a Pediatric Pathologist and Professor of
Pathology, I saw the light and went back to school. It was during
the two year Textile Arts Diploma program at Capilano College in
2000 - 2002, that I found I preferred creating with yarns and fibres,
especially the format of tapestry weaving. Since graduation I have
continued my studies with many workshops at Fibre Symposia locally and
with Convergence gatherings in Vancouver and Denver.
 My
new life in Textile Art has been reinforced by the new friends and
opportunities for service in the Greater Vancouver Weavers and Spinners
Guild with the Newsletter, Vancouver Guild of Fabric Arts as President,
fibreEssence Gallery as Alliance for Arts and Culture liason, and
Tapestry Weavers Interest Group founded after Convergence in Vancouver.
My work has been in local group exhibitions and is represented in private collections. Artist
Statement My most enjoyable work is conceptual - I
prefer to have a meaning behind the image I create. Tapestry
weaving is a very slow and methodical process, and it is important to me
to have several ideas behind the image I am creating so slowly.
Sometimes the images come quickly after an idea or event, but more often
they take a long time to seem just right and appropriate. I am
still on the technical learning curve regarding the details of how to
make the image as effective as possible, but with each image I learn
more about how to do the next one even better.
