I have
a B.A. in Fine Arts and about 20 years ago began taking workshops and
courses in textile and surface design techniques. In 1998 I took the
textile arts advanced program at Capilano College in North Vancouver,
and in 2000 I taught the second year and advanced program. I have
taught many workshops throughout the Pacific Northwest at various
conferences as well as through Maiwa Handprints, the Coupeville Arts
Centre, and the Vancouver Guild of Fibre Arts.
I
work mainly with art to wear, as clothing and its ability to transform
and make statements about the body has always fascinated me. Clothing is
also a good canvas for trying new techniques and ideas. My conceptual
work springs from this interest and an interest in the role of women now
and throughout history. Textiles connect my work to women’s work from
distant times and cultures.
