Born and brought up in upstate New York, my husband and I spent many years in Virginia before emigrating to Vancouver in 2001. I can't remember a time when I didn't sew: at first clothing, then, 30 years ago, I started quilting. Traditional
quilting was my first love, but since then I have broadened and
stretched the boundaries to include beading, embroidery and a more
contemporary approach. I enjoy teaching and my work has been influenced
by many first rate eachers and students.
My
quilts have been shown in several US and Canadian shows and have won
prizes at the American Quilter's Society show in Paducah, KY, the APNQ
Seattle Show and the Mid-Atlantic Show. Both American Quilter magazine
and Quilter's Newsletter have featured my work.
Professional
Memberships: Association of Pacific-Northwest Quilters, American
Quilter's Society, Vancouver Guild of Fabric Arts, and Vancouver
Quilters Guild.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I
love fabric. The reasons I use it as a medium for my work are the
possibilities it offers for a three dimensional presence and the extra
layer of design it provides. You can pull it and ease it and smock
it---and still it provides a fabulous base for thread, beads, embroidery
etc.
As
for inspiration, nature is my most constant starting point and guide. I
love old botanical prints and paintings that show where other people
have gone to express their vision. It stimulates me to take other
pathways, to abstract natural forms---to celebrate in cloth.
